Five Facts About Photography

  • The First Photograph ever taken was in 1862, taken by a man of the name of Joseph Nicéphore Niépce

  • This first photo was taken over course of 8 hours (to get the image)

  • Later in the 1800's the dry plate was invented, this only needed about 3 seconds of exposure time 

  • Because of the quicker exposure times, mecanhical shutters were created to help get the best image possible (to prevent over or underexposure). 

  • Mechanical belows were also invented to focus images, the quality of images began to increase dramaticly

  • the firest colour photo was creat by scotish physicist James Clarke

Black And White Imagry 

This is my black and white pin hole camera images, I took these with a camera I made from a cardboard box, a pop can, and some film. I took the image of others taking images. It think it is interesting and illustrates the abilities of make-at-home cameras. There is a negative and a positive image in this slide show, the negative image is strait from the camera.

This is my photo shopped self portrait. I took this using my camera, and I imported it into photo shop, and I tinkered. I was inspired by my passions and love for space, so I “dissolve” my self into the cosmos and put my self on the moon. I also used Albert Eienstein as an inspiration, in fact I used his quote “one feels as if they are dissolve and merged in to nature (the universe)”. This quote is the reason why I “dissolved” my self into universe in the center image. The outside images are used to create emphasis on the central image (and idea). However to tried to make the outside images as cool as I could by going to the moon and have the hubble space telescope assist me in my “observing”. What I Learned About Photography

I have learned many things about photography, and how it is done. From pin hole cameras in black and white to digital SLR cameras, I have learned a lot. Writen here is just a sample

 

  • ISO is the sensitivity of the of the photo sensor of the film to light. The greater the ISO the shorter the exposure time needs to be

  • The aperature is size of the hole that lets light into the camera

  • Take your time when setting up an image, and look for different angles, and opertunities to take a great shoot 

  • On a modern camera there are several "priority modes" which give you the ability to give different effect to the image. For example shutter priority will more effectivly freeze motion. Or use shutter priority for a clean sharp image very little depth of field 

  • We learned about the film photo development process, like the chemical baths, tranfering the negative image into a postive one, and the rest of photo development.

  • We learned to watch for many environmental factors when taking images like light sources, angles, and how the to use the elements and pricipals of design to enhance our image quality

  • We learned that when using a pin hole camera or any film camera,  it is very important to limit or control light exposure of any kind, including through the aperture. 

  • We learned that the three camera factors (ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture) all need to be in blance to take the perfect image. However they are quite "plastic". For example, if I want a quicker shutter speed, I would need to increase aperature or ISO to compensate for the flux in one of the properties. Or is i wanted a lower ISO, I would need to decrease shutter speed and or increase aperature. Ethier way all these factors need to be blanced to take a great photo!
